John Carter follow up currently in the work

Published: Feb 20, 2012 by meza Filed under: News
Despite the fact that it does not appear to cinemas for a number of weeks, Screen Rant is revealing that Disney is by now having a script for a John Carter follow up created. With a creation budget of more than $200 million, the sci-fi adventure is a bet for the studio to say the least, but the Mouse House is apparently at least somewhat positive that movie will be a success. Deadline, in contrast, is not quite as confident, saying that Disney has carried out a poor job marketing the movie and is expecting a huge bomb. Time will tell if John Carter will be a hit or not, but Pixar fans will finally be capable to view WALL-E director Andrew Stanton helm his first live-action feature when the film appears in cinemas and IMAX on March 9th.

War over Oz

Published: Feb 13, 2012 by meza Filed under: News
With Disney’s approaching Wizard of Oz prequel Oz: The Great and the Powerful arriving at cinemas the coming year, it was only a question of time before Warner Bros.–the studio in charge for the much loved 1939 Judy Garland movie–decided to talk about it.

In line with the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has a brand on the words The Great and Powerful Oz, which is a little bit different–but different all the same–from the name of Disney’s film. Despite the fact that it’s really improbable that this will stop the movie from getting launched, it could trigger a difficulty for any products that Disney wants to release for the film.

Warner Bros. has already gone after possible merchandise to go with the approaching cartoon film Dorothy of Oz, which, as outlined by the article, carries an increased than predicted production budget of $60 million.

Stop-Motion Animation Studio Laika making young adult book Wildwood image

Published: Sep 9, 2011 by meza Filed under: Movies

Since the launching of Coraline in 2009, admirers of stop-motion cartoon have been looking with bated breath for more Laika Entertainment plans. The Neil Gaiman adaptation informed not only an incredible tale, but has been full of stunning pictures and we even rated it as one of our favorite 3D movies. The company's following task ParaNorman, a movie that Coraline director Henry Sellick names, "A funny zombie story," arrives  the coming year.

In line with Variety, Laika is now intending to adapt Wildwood, a young mature book written by The Decemberists singer Colin Meloy. The novel was released just last week and is anticipated to be the first in a trilogy. Placed in an "alternate version" of Portland, Oregon, the tale is concerning a young girl called Prue McKneel who has to deal with down danger in the Impassable Wilderness to be able to save her kidnapped brother.

It kind of appears like a simple tale, but evidently it is quite the contrary. Described by the trade as the company's most ambitious task yet, studio Preident and CEO Travis Knight states that it has the epic level of the Lord of the Rings, and also "a wonderful modern quality as well." Said Knight of the job,

"Nothing of its kind has been attempted in our medium. You have these epic scenes alongside very nuanced character moments, which are the two hardest things to do in stop-motion. It's exciting to imagine how this might all come together."

What's interesting concerning this report is that Colin Meloy and wife, Carson Ellis (who did the sketches in the novel), declared they would not allow the project be optioned unless it was completed in either stop-motion or in the fashion of Watership Down (the killer bunny film that scarred us all as kids).
