Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers goes ahead

Not long ago reports concerning a Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs follow up started to come to light on the net, but now it would seem that it’s basically going ahead. Sony Pictures Animation launched a new promo image for their forthcoming slate, which shows that the follow up name will be Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers. The advertising also has very early promo art for The Smurfs 2, which indicates that the little blue people are planning to visit Paris, along with what is probably a concept painting for Hotel Transylvania.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs sequel

Sony Pictures Animation  established that Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn direct the follow up to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Cameron and Pearn are Sony Pictures Animation artists who worked on the first movie.

Chris Miller and Phil Lord, who wrote and directed the original 2009 film, will executive produce the sequel. Kirk Bodyfelt is producing.

The movie  has not yet obtained the green light.

The original, who gathered $243 million worldwide, was relied on the children's book written by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett and presented the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Bruce Campbell, Andy Samberg and Mr. T.

The Pirates! Band of Misfits - full new trailer

Sony Pictures Animation and Aardman Animations have released the full new trailer for The Pirates! Band of Misfits, coming to 3D and 2D cinemas on March 30th. The animated movie was directed by Peter Lord and Jeff Newit.



Hugh Grant, playing in his first animated role, is the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if and somehow less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag team at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and apparently blind to the impossible chances stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It's a goal that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen (Imelda Staunton) and together withh a haplessly smitten young scientist (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!

Popeye coming back to the big screen

Sony Pictures Animation has establish screenwriters Jay Scherick and David Ronn to create the screenplay for an all-new Popeye animated feature, in accordance with the legendary heroes of comic strip and cartoon fame. Popeye is the 2nd task for Scherick and Ronn with Sony Pictures Animation right after their success with this summer's hit The Smurfs, which has made over $550 million around the world since its July 29 opening. Sony Pictures Animation and Arad Productions are creating the stereoscopic 3D animated feature.



"Scherick & Ronn have an amazing talent in re-energizing loved personas," states Bob Osher, president of Sony Pictures Digital Productions. "As they proved with 'The Smurfs,' they embrace the legendary characteristics of these eternal characters and create a tale that really involves moviegoers today."

"We're enthusiastic that Jay and Dave are assisting us reintroduce Popeye to a new generation," remarks Michelle Raimo Kouyate, president of production for Sony Pictures Animation. "Their take on the realm of Popeye has just the ideal mixture of comedy, adventure and heart -- all the things that created a great cartoon movie."



"Popeye has been my childhood preferred character," states producer Avi Arad."To me he was always the everyday man who gets special powers and really becomes the first superhero in the best meaning of the word. Pooch Café

Sony Pictures Animation carries on to advance its development slate with the employing of veteran animation writer/director Kelly Asbury to write Pooch Café. The CG-animated feature is dependant on Paul Gilligan’s well-known syndicated comic strip, Pooch Café. The strip stars Poncho, a cheese-loving, squirrel-fearing, toilet-drinking mutt who brings together his canine friends at the Pooch Café, a neighborhood hangout where dogs can be dogs - evaluating notes on such weighty issues as staying away from baths, zebra-flavored cereal, and the building of a giant catapult with which to hurl all the Earth’s cats to the Sun. The strip was chosen for the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Award for Best Comic Strip in 2008.
